Caritas Malta announced the fourth edition of Caritas Run for Life, which has now entered the oragnisation’s calendar as an annual preventive physical activity for the general public.
The fourth edition of Caritas Run for Life will take place on Sunday 1st March 2026. This is a run or walk starting and ending at the San Blas Therapeutic Centre in Żebbuġ. There will be a 10 Km race, a 5 Km race, a 5 Km walk, a 1 Km race for children aged 6 to 9 years, and a 2.5 Km race for children aged 10 to 12 years and 13 to 15 years.
At a press conference, the Director of Caritas Malta, Mr Anthony Gatt, thanked all those supporting the event. “Although this activity is an element of fundraising, it is also actively promoting healthy living. This run encourages the public, of all ages, to participate and take satisfaction from it. In addition to the natural high from an activity like this, the donations go entirely towards the services of Caritas Malta since the expenses are covered by sponsors. Caritas Run for Life is attracting more participants from year to year; this would not be possible without the continuous support of Sportmalta, logistical collaborators St Patrick’s Athletic Club, main sponsors MyConvenience and MySupermarket together with The Sandra Calleja Foundation.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Andrew Attard, Executive Assistant to the Director of MyConvenience and MySupermarket and The Sandra Calleja Foundation, explained that from the very beginning the directors believed in this activity and all the benefits it generates. “MyConvenience and MySupermarket strongly believe in being behind Caritas. Drugs are more accessible than ever before, so we must invest more in people through physical activities and enjoy seeing the number of participants growing. Today, also through the establishment of The Sandra Calleja Foundation, we will be able to reach more NGOs and always be supportive in activities like this.” He concluded by encouraging more people to step towards physical activities.
Other sponsors include GO & Fun isotonic sport drink, Athletics Malta, Eurosport, GS Health and Safety, Malta Public Transport, Malta Police Force, LESA, the Żebbuġ Local Council, St John Ambulance and Rescue, Comtec Services Ltd, Agius Watches, Coros, General Soft Drinks, MITA, AMSM, Miller Distributors Ltd, Techprint, Audio Rentals Malta, Envi Innovations, Casapinta, Emergency Malta (private medical services), Smart Technologies, Copyserv and Pierre Cordina, and many others without whom this activity would not be possible.
Mr Mark Cutajar, Chairman of Sportmalta, praised the work of Caritas Malta and said it is an obligation for Sportmalta to support this activity every year as part of its mission. “Through this activity we lead a nation toward greater health and inclusion. Caritas and Sportmalta continue to join a piece of this puzzle to bring more people to physical activity. When we held the awards night, Caritas Malta was one of the first to receive an award, but beyond the awards and medals there is this wonderful purpose… you do not need to be an athlete to take part, because through the walk, even in the rural environment where it is held, one can clear the mind and enjoy it. In this mission we bring children, youth, and seniors, encouraging physical activity.” He concluded by also encouraging the public to register for the event, a celebration of sport, community, and solidarity.
Mr Ray Spiteri, President of St Patrick’s Athletic Club, said the club feels honoured to once again assist Caritas Malta. “It is good to say that Caritas Run for Life today forms part of the Athletics Malta programme, where almost every week there is an activity in the calendar, but this activity draws hundreds of people for many reasons including solidarity with Caritas for its work in society and also because there are different races: a 10 km race, a 5 km race for adults, as well as races for children of 1 km and 2.5 km. For those who may not yet be at the level to run, Caritas considers them too and there is a 5 km walk. The route is unique, in a rural and traffic-free environment; starting from near the San Blas Therapeutic Community and back. Different age categories can win trophies for first, second, and third place, and trophies and vouchers are also available for companies, clubs, or schools that bring the most participants. There will also be a goodie bag that includes various items including a T-shirt and a commemorative medal.” He encouraged even those who have never taken part in such activities before, because through the walk it may become the beginning of a series of physical activities in their lives.
Caritas Malta believes that in our society everyone – children, adolescents, youth, adults, and seniors, needs opportunities where one experiences the beauty of living and living a healthy life away from substances and everything that hinders a person from living with full dignity.
