Running 100 Km in one day for Charity
pierre
Running 100km is no ordinary feat. But for Brian Casingena, this extraordinary endurance challenge is about much more than physical strength. It is a deeply personal tribute to someone he loved, and a determination to make a difference in the lives of others.
Imagine running non-stop from Marsaxlokk to Għarb in Gozo, all the way back again, and then continuing for several more kilometers until you have covered a staggering 100km in one day! That is the scale of the challenge that Brian Casingena has set himself for Sunday, 15 November 2026.
Starting at 4am, while most of Malta is still fast asleep, Brian will embark on an extraordinary test of endurance. He plans to complete 18 loops of 5km each around Ta’ Qali, covering an incredible 91km, before making his way towards Qormi for the final 9km of his journey. His destination, which he expects to reach at around 2pm, is the Sandra Calleja monument in the gardens of My Group’s Head Office. It is a fitting finishing line for a challenge inspired by a very personal story.

A Personal Tribute to Sandra Calleja
Brian Casingena is a respected running coach and accomplished athlete, well known within Malta’s running and fitness community as an active participant in competitive running, endurance events and local sporting initiatives. Apart from participating in international competitions, his achievements include podiums in major local races like the Zurrieq 10k. Highlights of his coaching career include coaching a promising athlete from underdog to national champion in the BYU World Championships.
Behind this latest challenge lies a deeply emotional motivation. “Sandra Calleja was my dear aunt, who sadly passed away from a brain tumor in 2009 at just 36 years of age, leaving behind her two young children and her loving husband, Ivan,” Brian explains. “When I learned about the launch of the Sandra Calleja Foundation earlier this year, I immediately felt inspired to do something meaningful to support its mission. This 100km challenge is my way of honouring Sandra’s memory and contributing to the wonderful work being carried out in her name.”
For Brian, running has a significance that goes far beyond sport. Having overcome a difficult period in his own life, marked by struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, he discovered in running a path towards personal recovery, discipline and renewed purpose. What began as a way of rebuilding his own life, eventually became a passion and a profession. Today, as a qualified running coach and competitive athlete, Brian draws on his personal journey to motivate others, demonstrating that even the most difficult circumstances can be overcome with determination, perseverance and the courage to change.
His story is one of resilience and hope, values that make his latest challenge particularly inspiring.

Every Kilometre Has a Purpose
Brian’s 100km challenge is more than an extraordinary sporting achievement. It is a heartfelt tribute to his aunt Sandra and an opportunity to raise awareness and support for the Sandra Calleja Foundation.
Established in her memory, the Foundation carries forward a legacy of compassion and generosity through initiatives focused on education, healthcare, environmental sustainability and community development.
Supported by My Group, the corporate family behind MyConvenience and MySupermarket, the Foundation works to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities across Malta and Gozo.
Through his remarkable effort, Brian hopes to encourage others to embrace this spirit of giving and contribute to a cause that is particularly close to his heart.
